In today's environment, with the abundance of online booking engines, many people have been led to believe that booking travel themselves is cheaper and more convenient than using a professional travel advisor. Nothing could be further from the truth. Travel agents spend hundreds of hours studying the latest travel trends, industry news, special destinations, niche markets, gaining certifications, and honing their craft. Travel agents work for the commission that is already built into the price of your travel, and may only charge a small research fee in special circumstances. For example, if you are provided several free quotes and continue to ask your travel advisor for more options, you may be charged a research fee to help compensate for your travel agent's time. This is at the discretion of the individual agent and is not necessarily an industry standard. Travel agents save their clients many hours of valuable research time, and provide a level of personalized service that no online booking engine can.
